About the Program

The proposal for a Graduation Program in Material Science was submitted to CAPES in 2015 and approved in December of the same year. The regular activities started at the beginning of January in 2016, starting by creating a solid administrative coordinating body and electing a Program Coordinator. The Materials Sciences Graduation Program was created by allying researchers who were already collaborating at the area, but supervising students in different Programs, such as Physics and Chemistry.

After the beginning of the activities of the Materials Sciences Program, the cooperations among the different researchers were strengthened towards solid multidisciplinary collaborations, which consolidated the Master’s Program throughout the two first years (2016 and 2017). Since Materials Sciences are academically and industrially strategic to the development of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, the Program aims to graduate students from Basic/Applied Sciences to Engineering in order to improve human resources and technology.

It is noteworthy that this is the first Program in Materials in Mato Grosso do Sul and, therefore, its approval was the pioneer one, which is very important for UFMS and the State. In the most recent evaluation made by CAPES (2017), regarding the quadrennium 2013-2016, the Course was evaluated with a grade 3.
